Description
Starting our half day walk from your Beechworth accommodation or, if you are staying out of town, we will meet and set off from the gorgeous TINY café in Camp Street. We will head towards Stanley via the rear of Lake Sambell Caravan Park following Spring Creek and Hurdle Creek to the very tranquil and picturesque Lake Kerferd.
This beautiful shady walk meanders past old mining sites therefore it is essential to stay on the walking tracks as many of the old mine shafts are deep and potentially dangerous. Set within a prolific array of tall gums; blue, white-barked brittle and peppermint gums the calming smell of the natural Australian bush will take your mind to a quiet place.
Let your thoughts wander as you take in this serene countryside through the feathered light of the tall trees and allow yourself to be at peace with nature; our walks are as much about the journey as the destination. You may hear the call of a Golden Whistler or see a flash of colour that is the Crimson Parrot as they watch our journey from above.
Normally while walking we suggest keeping your eyes on the ground in front of you but on this track we recommend looking up every now and again because the chances of spotting a Koala or even two are very high. We may also encounter wallabies, echidnas and even a chubby wombat as we walk along so keep your camera handy!
Lake Kerford and the surrounding bushland is a treat for nature lovers, offering habitat to a rich diversity of animal and birdlife. For many years it has been Beechworth’s water supply so there is no swimming or boating allowed which has enabled the wildlife to flourish. It is also a favourite fishing spot for locals, not too many fish are actually caught, but the way this place makes you feel keeps them coming back fish or no fish.
We will stop here for morning/afternoon tea before heading back to Beechworth and as we head back into town remember to take joy in the fact you have given yourself some precious down time… time to enjoy our stunning outdoors with an active body, still mind and peaceful soul. One step at a time.
